Littleton, NH – Littleton Regional Hospital Charitable Foundation is pleased to announce that it has received additional support of $10,000 from Northway Bank.  This is the second major gift that the Foundation has received from local banks including a $10,000 gift from Woodsville Guaranty Bank.   Both gifts are part of the Foundation’s fund raising efforts in support of The Century Fund, a permanent endowment established in recognition of LRH’s 100th anniversary, which they celebrated in June.    Deb Anderton, Regional Vice President of Commercial Lending, and Jan Cole, Branch Manager from the Littleton Branch presented the check to Warren West, CEO and Gail Clark, Director of the Foundation.  Anderton, who serves on the Hospital Board is supportive of the LRH Charitable Foundation and through this gift reinforces the importance of supporting an endowment that will give back to LRH well into the future.

Warren West, CEO, and Gail Clark, Executive Director of the Foundation are pleased that area businesses provide support, and especially this year, with gifts made to The Century Fund.  West stated, “Philanthropy and support of LRH began with the founding of the Hospital in 1906.  Support of The Century fund provides an opportunity for donors to give a gift that will keep on giving to LRH.  The establishment of the Endowment Fund will provide a source of income to the Hospital each year in support of program start up costs, equipment needs, and capital purchases.”

The Littleton Regional Hospital Charitable Foundation Board invites the community to continue this tradition of fundraising to support the Hospital through a gift to the
LRH Century Fund.  Support of the Hospital’s Centennial celebration offers several naming opportunities for prospective donors all of which will become a permanent part of the Hospital’s history.

In June, the Littleton Regional Hospital celebrated its 100th birthday.  In recognition of this milestone event, the LRH Charitable Foundation Board established The Century Fund, a permanent endowment fund for the benefit of the programs and services provided by Littleton Regional Hospital.

The Littleton Regional Hospital Charitable Foundation established in 2003 has actively supported Littleton Regional Hospital through a series of special events and appeals. Some of the programs and services that have received support include the paramedic intercept program, Agnes Norris Birthing Center, Gale Medical Library, rehabilitation services, nursing administration, emergency medical service providers, and Veteran’s who receive care at LRH.

The Foundation Board recognizes that small rural hospitals in northern New Hampshire and across the United States must constantly keep abreast of changing medical technology in order to provide quality services and programs.  Monies raised through The Century Fund will assist the Hospital in meeting these challenges so that LRH can continue to fulfill its Mission, “to provide quality, compassionate and accessible healthcare in a manner that brings value to all.”

To date the Foundation has raised nearly $150,000 from the hospital family and from a few select businesses in Littleton and surrounding towns.  Warren West, CEO stated, “The goal is to raise $500,000 this year and to continue to add to the Foundation’s endowment in order to generate sufficient annual income from interest earned, all of which will support program start up costs, equipment needs and capital expenses at LRH.”
Anyone interested in learning more about the Littleton Regional Hospital Charitable Foundation and The Century Fund, is encouraged to contact Gail Clark, executive director at (603) 444-9304.

Littleton, NH – Littleton Regional Hospital Charitable Foundation received a generous $10,000 from James Graham, President and Richard Gagne, CFO of Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank.  Gagne also serves on the LRH Charitable Foundation Board.  Woodsville Guaranty Bank representatives expressed appreciation for the vision of LRH and the LRH Charitable Foundation in planning for future viability and for the tremendous benefit, LRH provides for everyone in Littleton and surrounding communities.

LRH Charitable Foundation appreciates support of The Century Fund, a permanent endowment established in recognition of LRH’s 100th anniversary. The LRH Charitable Foundation Board believes that the perpetual assistance provided through support of the Fund reinforces its mission, vision and values and establishes a permanent legacy that will support LRH for many years to come. Warren West, CEO, and George Brodeur, Board Chair of the Foundation agree that, “This gift will have a positive impact on our fundraising efforts. We are very grateful for Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank’s generosity and strong support of all of our fundraising efforts.”

Since the Hospital’s founding in 1907, the community has generously volunteered its time, talent, and financial resources to the Hospital. As far back as 1906 during the initial organization and planning for a new hospital in Littleton, NH, founders of LHR, J.J. Glessner and Dr. William Beattie initiated the fundraising toward the construction of the new building. Dr. Beattie pledged $10,000 and annual dues were set at $10, or one could become a life member for $100. Throughout the construction and afterward, the Littleton Courier reported not only on day-to-day progress of construction, but on the on going fund raising and philanthropy to support LRH. In 1907 and 1908, special fund raising events included fairs, vaudeville shows, musical recitals and a large annual benefit at the Maplewood Hotel that included an “automobile stop” where guests compelled motorists to buy raffle tickets.

Dr. H. Taylor Caswell Memorial Fund Established to
Benefit Children of the North Country

Littleton, NH – An endowment fund has been established at the Littleton Regional Hospital Charitable Foundation in memory of Dr. H. Taylor Caswell, Jr., who practiced at LRH from 1974 until his untimely death in 2001. Dr. Caswell was loved and well respected by many in the Littleton area. Dr. Caswell was the first orthopaedic surgeon at LRH, and served in that role for more than 27 years. The endowment consists of a donation from the Caswell family as well as over $8,000 that was generously contributed by over 60 colleagues, patients, and friends in 2001.

The Dr. H. Taylor Caswell Memorial Endowment Fund will be used to address issues that embody Dr. Caswell’s love for children. These issues could include access for children to healthcare in a small rural setting, education of children and parents on health issues, and social welfare programs for children in Coos and northern Grafton/Carroll counties.
Richard Gagne, Board Chair of Littleton Regional Hospital Charitable Foundation states, “This endowment fund and others like it helps the Foundation fulfill its mission to raise funds for the benefit of Littleton Regional Hospital including the creation of a permanent endowment to support patient care, equipment needs, and programs directly related to the health and well-being of the members of the community we serve. We are very grateful to the Caswell family for their generous gift, and plan to assist them to raise additional funds to support this fund. “

Dr. Caswell’s love was his wife Linda and their two sons, Taylor and Ken. That love and his desire to raise his children in a small rural community is what led Dr. Caswell to the North Country and Littleton Regional Hospital. Before coming to New Hampshire, Dr. Caswell attended Temple Medical School in Philadelphia. After completing his medical training, Dr. Caswell enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed at Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

The Caswell family invites community members to support the Dr. H. Taylor Caswell Memorial Endowment Fund. “Since my father died in 2001 we have had nothing but tremendous caring and support from the North Country and LRH communities,” said Dr Caswell’s oldest son Taylor Caswell, III of Hollis, NH. “While it’s what you come to expect when you live, work, or have roots here, we want to do what we can to make sure it’s something future generations can come to expect as well. The care LRH provides is such a vital part of that goal, and for all these reasons we urge anyone thinking of how to help make a difference to consider making a donation to LRH Charitable Foundation. ” For information on how you can support this fund or the Littleton Regional Hospital Charitable Foundation, please contact, Gail Clark, director of development and community relations at Littleton Regional Hospital at (603) 444-9304.
