LRH Welcomes New Hospitalist
June 3, 2010
LRH is pleased to announce the appointment of Anurag Kushawaha, MD, Internist and Hospital Medicine Specialist. Dr. Kushawaha joins current LRH hospitalist, Dr. Stephen Goldberg. Inpatient specialists, or better known as "hospitalists" are physicians who provide general and acute medical care of hospitalized patients. Hospital medicine is a rapidly expanding field and there are more new jobs available for hospitalists than in any other aspect of internal medicine. Hospital medicine is a significant career path option for graduating medical residents who have completed training in general internal medicine, family practice, general pediatrics, and obstetrics.
Dr. Kushawaha received his MD, Doctor of Medicine degree at St. Matthews University. He completed his Internal Medicine residency training at Staten Island University Hospital, which is the 5th largest hospital in the NYC metropolitan area and is also a major teaching affiliate of the State University of New York (SUNY).
Dr. Kushawaha, better known as "Dr.K." at LRH, is a member of the American Medical Association, American College of Physicians, the MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) Prevention Collaborative Committee, and is also chairperson of the Infection Control Committee at LRH.
In addition to his many academic accomplishments in clinical research and national-level conferences, Dr.Kushawaha was recently published in BMJ Case Reports, entitled, "Necrotising Fasciitis with Vibrio vulnificus, a limb-threatening dermatologic complication following exposure to marine life". In his spare time, "Dr.K." enjoys traveling and scuba diving.
