LRH Family Support Team Training
June 30, 2010
As part of Littleton Regional Hospital's continued efforts to provide exceptional patient and family centered care to our community, the Hospital implemented a Family Support Team and Aftercare Program.
Sudden, unexpected health crisis is a traumatic event with far reaching impact not only for the patient, but also for all significant others in the individual patient's life. Immediate and long-term support, resource information, referral and ongoing communication during the processes of bereavement can assist loved ones in getting through such an event. The mission of the Littleton Regional Hospital Family Support Team & Aftercare Program is to offer supportive care to family and other loved ones of our patients experiencing unexpected severe illness, critical traumatic injury or sudden, unexpected death.
The Family Support Team provides support to the families and loved ones of our patients in two very distinct ways. First, In-Hospital support is provided by volunteers who are a quiet presence for families to lean on, orient loved-ones to our facility, assist the family in accessing resources and serve as a family liaison to the clinical staff.
Aftercare volunteers contact families at specific intervals for up to 24 months after a loss or death to check in on the family and provide survivors with information about support groups and other community resources to help with their grief.
Annual Family Support Team training will take place on Saturday, September 11, 2010 from 9:30 through 5:00 in the Gale Medical Library at Littleton Regional Hospital. If you are interested in attending, if only to learn more about this program, please contact Kris van Bergen by calling 603.444.9349 for more information.
