Littleton Cardiologist Appointed as FASE
Anil K. Mukerjee, MD, FACC, FASE recently received his appointment to the Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography. Dr. Mukerjee is the fifth cardiologist to be recognized with this outstanding fellowship in New Hampshire since 1996. The American Society of Echocardiography is an organization of professionals committed to excellence in cardiovascular ultrasound and its application to patient care through education, advocacy, research, innovation and service to our members and the public. Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography (FASE) recognizes the dedicated ASE member with a diverse set of skills and comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of echocardiography.
For physician members of ASE the Fellow designation recognizes those members who have fulfilled both the training and performance requirements that are necessary for Certification through the National Board of Echocardiography. Attainment of this important standard of practice plus a commitment to the field of echocardiography is the foundation for the Fellow designation.
Dr. Mukerjee is recognized for his special interest in all aspects of adult echocardiography and is currently the medical director of the cardiac echocardiography laboratory at Littleton Regional Hospital. Echocardiographic procedures offered at the laboratory include transthoracic echocardiograms to evaluate the size and function of the heart and all of its valves, transesophageal echocardiograms, better known as TEE, which are used to evaluate hard to see structures of the heart, and dobutamine stress echocardiograms, or DSE which allow the physician to diagnose coronary heart disease by stressing the heart.
Dr. Mukerjee became an active member of the medical staff in 1996 after completing his cardiology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital - Harvard Medical School in Boston. He is board certified in both internal medicine, cardiology and echocardiography and has recently completed cardiac CT training at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Mukerjee is trained in cardiac PET from Massachusetts General Hospital.
Littleton Regional Hospital achieved Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography (ICAEL) certification for the echocardiography laboratory in 2003, of which Dr. Mukerjee was instrumental in overseeing the process.
